BEAR provides items through its BEAR rooms for these children such as clothes, shoes, diapers, car seats, school supplies, formula and more. The program aims to support over 12,000 children annually.
Every December BEAR spreads holiday cheer by providing gifts to CPS kids during the holiday season. Thanks to our many community partners this annual program collects over 20,000 gifts for over 10,000 children in CPS care.
Donations to BEAR’s Annual Fund gives BEAR the money it needs to fill gaps in program-specific funding and to cover emergency needs.
Celebrating youth who have graduated from High School or obtained their GED, Donors help CPS teens adjust to life on their own by sponsoring teens and purchasing items for this transitional period as they aim to pursue a trade or higher education.
BEAR’s seasonal program helps ensure that children currently under the care of CPS have the supplies and uniforms they need to go back to school each fall. Each year, BEAR aims to provide over 5,000 children with new uniforms, school supplies and a backpack to help kids start the academic year.
The Heart Gallery is a powerful, traveling photographic exhibit created to help find forever families for children in foster care. Like any other child, these children like to laugh, learn, and have special talents and hobbies. Most of all, however, they dream of one day finding a forever family. More information, including ways to become a Heart Gallery Hero, is coming soon!
BEAR’s competitive advantage is that the organization is dedicated to a cause that many people find noble and worthwhile:
helping needy kids
In addition, all donations go directly to helping kids, not funding overhead costs. The Department of Family and Protective Service and Harris County Protective Services donate staff salaries and office space allowing more than 90% of donated dollars to go straight to the children.
